RAINFOREST CONCERN
Geothermal International has signed up to Rainforest Concern’s Carbon Conscious Programme.
We are aware that our business activities have an environmental impact and in order to compensate
for our office activities, we have decided to donate an amount of money equivalent to our carbon
footprint to the conservation work carried out by Rainforest Concern. Rainforest Concern was
established in 1993 to protect threatened natural habitats, the biodiversity they contain and
the indigenous people who still depend on them for their survival. At present we have 18 conservation
projects in 11 countries.
Central to Rainforest Concern’s philosophy is the establishment of strong
partnerships with small yet dynamic organisations in the countries where
they operate. Such long-term partnerships have repeatedly shown to result
in the sustainable success of projects. |

We are pleased to have found a conservation partner who can help us support
sustainability and contribute towards preserving tropical forests. In a world
threatened by climate change, forests continue to play a vital role. It is a
startling fact that 20% of global annual CO2 emissions are caused by the destruction
of forests – more than the total global transport sector. Keeping this carbon locked
up is just the beginning of the story – there is a forestful of other benefits to be
gained: soil protection, erosion and flood control; shelter for biodiversity;
provision of alternative and sustainable use of forest land; restoration and
safeguarding ecosystem services; and security for the area from which 25% of all
modern drugs originated.
